Russ Dietz is the Chief Security Officer for GE Digital and the General Manager of the Industrial Internet Cyber Security Center of Excellence. In his role as Chief Security Officer, he is leading the cyber security strategy, vision and execution for GE Digital, driving the Secure Development Lifecycle Framework policy and planning, and ensuring the security of GE’s portfolio of Predix platforms, applications and data driven Industrial Internet. Dietz also serves as General Manager of the Industrial Internet Cyber & OT Security CoE where he works directly with global GE cyber-security experts and leaders from GE Digital, Wurldtech and other GE businesses outlining the strategic roadmap and engagement model for product and operational security - identifying and replicating best practices across GE.
Dietz has more than 30 years of experience in the technology and security space. With a proven track record of success as a technology executive and CTO for multiple high-tech companies, he has achieved landmark results with hardware, software and systems security companies. Dietz is also a recognized pioneer and innovator in the cloud computing and virtualization security solution areas. In addition, he currently holds more than 20 patents in encryption, authentication and network traffic behavior and analysis in the United States, European Union, Japan and China.
Prior to GE, Dietz was Executive Vice President of Product, Research and Development, leading the security technology vision and product strategy, as well as innovation, research and development efforts. In this role, Dietz oversaw the engineering; product management and cloud operations security lab teams, and in addition, led company-wide strategic initiatives to unify product lifecycles through the creation of a common information and cyber security framework for customer-managed and as-a-service cloud solutions. His leadership resulted in more effective security, reduced vulnerability management and increased business efficiency across his global team.
Prior to Websense, Dietz was CTO and CVP for SafeNet, where he led their global research and development operation and the strategic positioning and migration of new technologies into SafeNet's portfolio. As CTO for Hifn Inc., he defined the next generation of security, service, and network processing solutions. While serving as CTO for Apptitude Inc., Dietz drove the vision, strategy, and architecture of application and network flow classification solutions.
Dietz was previously the founder and vice president of Engineering for Technically Elite; held various management and technical spots at Magnavox Electronic Systems and Digital Equipment Corporation; and was a technical author for the Digital News and Review technical journal.
He is an active member of the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), Trusted Computing Group (TCG), Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) and the Cloud Computing Interoperability Forum (CCIF).
