Ms. Terry Benzel has a Masters Degree in Mathematics from Boston University (1982)
and an Executive M.B.A from UCLA (1996). She is the Deputy Director of the Internet
and Networked Systems Division of the USC Information Sciences Institute. Her
research interests are in the science of cyber security experimentation and next generation distributed experimentation methodologies. Ms. Benzel is the project director of the DETER Project that evolves experimental network infrastructure and methodologies to support development and demonstration of next-generation information security technologies.
She was a key contributor to the development of the Cybersecurity
Experimentation of The Future (CEF) report. This report presents a strategic plan and
roadmap to advance the field of experimental cybersecurity research.
Ms. Benzel has served as an advisor to government and industry on R&D strategy and roadmap development, providing guidance to the National Science Foundation, White House Office of Science Technology and Policy, Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office, Department of Defense, and industry alliances. Terry has testified twice before the U.S. House Committee on Science.
